WE ALL KNOW MIAMI MARKETTA IS MECCA FOR DIVERSE FOOD OPTIONS. BUT THE MUSICAL ACTS ARE ALSO DRAWING BIG CROWDS.
Miami Marketta has established itself as a haven for Gold Coast food foragers and chilled after-hours drinks, but it’s the music scene that’s becoming a real drawcard for Marketta crowds.
Miami Marketta music director Melissa de Regt prides herself on providing the Marketta masses with a variety of options. “Each event will always have a different vibe,” Mel explains. “At our Wednesday mid- week Marketta, we have a resident Brazilian band, Bossa Trio.
Our Friday and Saturday Street Food nights offer a really eclectic group of genres from Blues to Ska to Reggae. We chose bands we think will complement the festival vibe on the weekend. People can come eat some food and than have a boogie to end their night.” And boogie they do. Especially when the musical menu is this good. “We have had some amazing acts come through – some of the most memorable would have to be Sublime with Rome, The Growlers, Allah – Las, Meg Mac, Amy Shark, Boy & Bear, The Cat Empire, Vera Blue, Client Liaison and Ocean Alley,” Mel says.
Miami Marketta really offers the well-rounded night out, where Gold Coast visitors are encouraged to hang with locals on communal tables, learning the secrets (straight from the horses’ mouths) behind what makes our patch of paradise so unique and compelling. “I think because we have such a community vibe here, anyone can feel like they are welcome,” Mel agrees. “We also have all the elements of a good night out – good food, great music and even greater cocktails. It’s a more unique going-out experience.” Mel says Marketta is great for young families who come for an early dinner and let the kids dance and socialise. It’s also a popular meeting point for groups looking for a total night out – they will start with a bite to eat, then a delicious cocktail or three, and stay on for the band. Otherwise, Mel says Marketta offers a nice, social, relaxed date destination for couples to grab a dessert and a wine. “It’s a win on all levels,” Mel says.
While Mel has played a role in Miami Marketta hosting some amazing acts already, there are a few key targets on her wish list. And she says she’s happy to dream big, for the benefit of the crowd.
“It would be amazing to have Aussie legends perform here, like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Gang of Youths and Aussie royalty like Nick Cave and the Band Seeds!” she says.
