The weather is heating up and so are barbeques up and down the coast. You don’t need a state-of-the-art barbie to grill, smoke and sizzle up a storm – there are plenty of great BBQ spots on the Gold Coast for you to use, free of charge.
Justin’s Park/John Laws Park, Burleigh
If it’s a BBQ with a view you’re after, look no further than Burleigh Heads. Both the beachfront Justin’s Park and John Laws Park (known as Burleigh Hill to locals) offer clean, pristine barbecue facilities as well as beach access, toilets, nearby restaurants and – most famously – a stunning view of the Gold Coast.
Paradise Point Parklands
It’s not called Paradise Point for nothing. Perched on the broad water, Paradise Point boasts spacious grassy areas, children’s playgrounds and excellent barbecue facilities. Make use of the undercover tables or pack a picnic blanket and enjoy lunch underneath in the shade of the many tall trees.
Broadwater Parklands, Southport
The sprawling Broadwater Parklands are a Gold Coast favourite for a reason – between the water park and the ginormous jumping pillow, it’s the perfect spot for an afternoon of family fun. Well-kept, well-positioned barbecues make the most of the view.
Kirra Hill Lookout
Perched between North Kirra and Greenmount Beaches, the view from Kirra Hill Lookout is most certainly worth the trek up the hill. Sprawling views from Coolangatta right up to Surfers Paradise make this one of the best sunset spots on the Gold Coast, best enjoyed with a barbecued burger in hand.
Currumbin Rock Pools
Adventure inland to this natural swimming pool and you’ll be in for hours upon hours of rope swinging, creek swimming and wholesome summer fun. There are several sheltered picnic tables and barbecues to make use of, so pack some food and make a day of it.
Palm Beach Parklands (Pirate Park)
Families with young children will particularly love this park, which boats an enormous pirate ship as a playground. Set on the Currumbin Creek inlet, the Palm Beach Parklands also offer numerous barbecues and are in close proximity to a dog off-leash beach, if you’re looking to bring the entire family.
Laguna Park, Palm Beach
This spot is a popular wedding destination, and after taking one look at the stunning waterfront location and towering palm trees, you’ll understand why. This quiet slice of Palm Beach paradise is perfect for family get-togethers.
Kurrawa Pratten Park, Broadwater
Along with being the Gold Coast’s first ‘all abilities playground’, Kurrawa Pratten Park is a favourite for local families and tourists alike for its expansive area, impressive array of facilities and – of course – excellent barbecue spots.
Tallebudgera Creek
If it’s absolute waterfront barbecues you’re after, look no further than Tallebudgera Creek. A respite from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast, the crystal-clear ocean creek also offers playgrounds, toilet facilities and a rock pool.
Cascade Gardens, Broadbeach Waters
Along with its towering trees, sparkling river and many monuments and memorials, Cascade Gardens is also known for its particularly clean barbecue facilities. Head here if you’re after an afternoon get-together away from the action.
