In honour of International Margarita Day, margs are on the menu. And who better to share the perfect chilli margarita recipe than the makers of Australia’s chicest cocktail shaker, Margo Margo?

Gone are the days of red cups, sticky benches and sub-par margaritas made in protein shakers. Enter: Margo Margo, Australia’s very first boutique cocktail kit (and it’s luxe AF!).

Founders Sophie Maffina and Kimberly Jewell, like most other Australians, were fed up with the lack of quality cocktail-ware on offer – especially during the COVID lockdowns.

“After numerous weeks making cocktails from protein shakers, I purchased a shaker online – but, after one use, the lid got stuck on and I was never able to use it again,” says Sophie. “It still sits in my bar cabinet as a reminder of how we got here.

“We found most other shakers were boring stainless steel, no creative flare – that’s how Margo Margo was born. The chihuahua logo is inspired by Frankie, my chihuahua. She’s our mascot – we love her attitude, so we felt it appropriate to pop a pair of aviator sunnies on her in our branding.”

Via Margo Margo, Sophie and Kimberly are elevating cocktail hour (and your bar cart) one shaker at a time. Each cocktail shaker has a built-in strainer, and your kit comes with a shot jigger and a luxe plate designed for salt rimming. They’ve thought of everything – and all for just $99.

Chilli margarita recipe

Cut a jalapeño or two up and add to a bottle of 1800 Coconut Tequila.

Let it sit in there for a day (or as long as possible).

In your cocktail shaker, add one shot chilli-infused coconut tequila, one shot Cointreau, half a shot of lime juice, a touch of agave and ice.

Shake in your cocktail shaker.

Fill glasses with ice and pour cocktail mix over.

Garnish with crushed chilli and salt rim.

Enjoy.
