Don’t tell the boss, but we’ve studied the public holidays on the calendar to find out how we can get the most out of our annual leave in 2023. And now, we’re sharing our findings with you. Thank us later.
Easter and ANZAC Day
It’s surprisingly easy to turn four days of leave into a 10-day holiday. Take off work from April 11 to 14 and you’ll score yourself a holiday from Good Friday (April 7) until Sunday April 17. Or, for an extended break over Easter and Anzac Day (April 7 to 25), take annual leave from April 11 to 14, April 17 to 21 and April 24.
Labour Day
After Anzac Day, you won’t be back at your desk for long before it’s time for another public holiday (i.e., another excuse to use your annual leave). Queensland’s Labour Day public holiday falls on Monday May 1, meaning you can take the rest of the week off (May 2 to May 5) and get nine days off for the price of four. The best part is that it’s not a public holiday in New South Wales – perfect for a quiet getaway over the border. You could also take off April 24 and 26 to 28 and turn just four days of leave into 11 days off.
Queen’s Birthday
Much like the Labour Day public holiday, when the Queen’s Birthday public holiday rolls around on Monday October 2, you’ll be able to enjoy a cruisy nine days off with minimal effort. Make sure you take October 3 to 6 off work to get nine days of holidays, from Saturday September 30 until Sunday October 8.
Christmas
Finally, Christmas – it’s wild to think it’s finally here. While you probably should have thought ahead, it may not be too late. If you take just three days off from Wednesday December 27 to Friday December 29, you’ll get 10 days off when you factor in the New Year’s Day public holiday.
