Pet-friendly adventures on and around the Gold Coast
Here on the Gold Coast, we’re big dog people – so it makes sense that there are plenty of places to take our four-legged friends on any given weekend. Here are just five of our favourites.
Camping sites that are dog-approved
Looking for the paw-fect place to pitch a tent? Whether you’re craving beachside bliss, a shady spot by the creek or a quiet escape tucked away in the bush, there’s nothing better than spending a night under the stars with your dog by your side. We’ve rounded up some of the best dog-friendly camping spots near the Gold Coast – from peaceful hinterland hideaways to coastal campgrounds with sand between your toes and salt in the air. Grab the lead, pack the treats and get ready for some quality time in nature with your four-legged bestie.
Puppuccino-slinging cafes
Whether you’re starting your day with a beachside breakfast, catching up with friends or treating your pup to a puppuccino after a morning walk, there’s no shortage of cafés that roll out the welcome mat for four-legged guests. From laid-back local favourites to Instagram-worthy brunch spots, we’ve rounded up the top dog-friendly cafés where tails wag just as much as tongues. Because let’s be honest – the only thing better than a café coffee is enjoying it with a dog by your side.
Take a hike with your pup in tow
From tranquil bushland trails shaded by towering gums to breezy coastal walks with ocean views, our region is bursting with dog-friendly hikes that cater to all fitness levels and energy types – both human and canine. Whether you’re after a gentle meander where your dog can sniff to their heart’s content or a more challenging trek to get those legs moving (all six of them), there’s a trail to suit every adventure.
A pup-approved shopping spree
Did you know there are not one but two (and counting) dog-dedicated shops here on the Gold Coast? Palm Beach Loves Dogs is your one-stop shop for all things dog related – from treats to toys to accessories. Then there’s Pablo & Co, the internet’s favourite dog brand that has officially found a new home on the Gold Coast. Check out their Southport store for their full (adorable) range.
Dog-friendly beaches that make a splash
No Gold Coast adventure is complete without a visit to the beach – and luckily, there are several where your pup can run free. The Spit at Southport is a long-time favourite, offering off-leash zones and calm waters perfect for a paddle. Further south, both Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks both have off-leash areas, with plenty of space to roam (and beautiful surrounds). Just don’t forget the towel – sandy paws are guaranteed.

“I mean the margarita was pretty much built for the Gold Coast,” says Jessie, “hailing originally from the hot deserts of Mexico. It’s satisfyingly thirst-quenching and refreshing, with sugars, salts, vitamin C, B6, folate, potassium, antioxidants – all the things we need when we’re overheating and drinking.”
