Winter is gone, but no one told our skin that – it’s still feeling dull, dry and lifeless. Luckily, the Prescription Facial at GC Skin Boutique is an easy way to get your glow back.
Getting a facial should treat your senses as much as your skin. With pretty pink hues, fluffy towels and calming music (your choice of ‘spa’ or ‘acoustic’), a visit to GC Skin Boutique does exactly that.
Their menu of skin treatments has something for every concern and complexion. But if you’re overwhelmed by the choices or you only have an hour, you really can’t go past the Prescription Facial.
scout editor Anastasia White was lucky enough to trial this popular facial (for research purposes, of course) at GC Skin Boutique’s Kirra location, and left with spring-ready skin in an hour flat.
Here’s how it went…
The ultrasonic cleanser
To create a fresh, clean base, facialist Hannah used a specialised cleaner under steam. The ultrasonic cleansing device opened the pores to allow for a deeper cleanse. If you’re a fan of cleansers that go deep, leaving your skin feeling completely oil free – though not dry – you’ll love this step.
The hydrabrasion
Next was hydrabrasion, an alternative to microdermabrasion for skin types that need something a little bit gentler. Hydrabrasion still uses diamonds but, unlike microdermabrasion, it also uses wet exfoliation to sooth while it cleanses. It felt like a mini vacuum (in the best way) sucking up the dead skin cells and any remaining yuckiness the cleanser may not have been able to wash away. When it comes to exfoliation, it’s quite literally the diamond standard.
The jelly mask
After thorough cleansing and exfoliation, your skin will be well and truly ready for some jelly. GC Skin Boutique’s hydro jelly mask feels as good as you’d think it would, coating the skin with an electrolyte-infused serum to add hydration. There really aren’t words to describe the feeling of the cool, thick mixture being painted onto your face – or how hard you’ll have to resist the overwhelming urge to touch it. This is when you really start to get your glow back.
The massage
No facial is complete without a massage, and GC Skin Boutique’s Prescription Facial offers one of the best. It doesn’t just feel amazing – this step also uses a lymphatic drainage technique to help boost blood circulation and relieve muscle tension.
The serums
This next step is where the ‘prescription’ part of the facial really comes into play. Your facialist will use a combination of serums tailored to your individual skin concerns (for Anastasia, this meant added hydration and nourishment to achieve a spring glow), before yet another lymphatic drainage massage, this time with a gua sha.
The final touch
Before the hour-long treatment was over (too quickly, of course), Hannah used a few final moisturising products to really nail that glowing finish. You could even ask for an SPF if you’re going to be outdoors or by a window for the rest of the day.
When your facial is over and you regrettably hop off the treatment table, you’ll leave feeling relaxed and looking thoroughly glowy. We can’t think of a better way to say sayonara to winter and kick start spring, can you?
