Margaritas are pretty much this city’s official cocktail at this point. Since only the best margaritas on the Gold Coast will do, we’ve recruited the help of the experts behind @margi_andme. Read on for their top picks (and a few of our own).

Easily one of the strongest margs we have sipped on the GC, but not in a *vomit emoji* way. She’s balanced. We were not threatened by her. We love and miss her dearly.
We absolutely j’adored the mix of salt and sugar rim on the coconut marg. Each sip made for a different drinking experience depending on which portion of the rim you interacted with. Live, laugh, Frida Sol x
Who-zu needs to try the Yuzu Margi at Nineteen at The Star? You-zu (sorry). Simple but effective, Nineteen’s Yuzu Margarita boasts a boujee blend of Herradura Tequila, Triple Sec, yuzu syrup and lemon, dusted to perfection with a Salt Bae sprinkle of black salt. If this is what it means to be #basic, then call us a bunch of plain Janes.
Nineteen has nailed the ratio of a perfect margi. Believe us when we say that we have re-ordered this bad boy many times (in the name of quality assurance, duh) and they NEVER MISS. Plus, the price point of this margi masterpiece is very reasonable, especially when you consider its prime real estate in the heart of The Star Casino. This opulent offering won’t leave you chasing your losses on the Lightning Link downstairs, that’s for sure.
Definitely the most diverse menu we’ve encountered on our GC margi travels. Like… cherry tomato infused agave tequila, are you kidding?¿
The ‘Sex in an Hour’ blew our mind. The minefield that is a blueberry margi with watermelon and elderflower was something we simply could not pass up. Genuinely baffled by how they made the flavour so perfectly sweet AND tarte at the same time. Obsessed.
We also revere the two subcategories: ‘Prestige’ and ‘Sexy’. Ordering a ‘Sex in an Hour’ and a ‘Threesome Right After’ was an out of body experience and we lowkey loved it.
Sometimes the best margs can be found in the most unsuspecting places… like an Italian restaurant. If you’re like us and can’t say no to a coconut marg, you need to try Balboa Italian’s Coconut Chilli Margi.
Have you heard the good word about our lord and saviour, 1800 Coconut Tequila? Us, amongst so many other Gold Coast gals, are firm believers that 1800 Coconut Tequila can do absolutely no wrong. You can’t perfect perfection, right? WRONG. Balboa defied all odds and blew us out of the park with their concoction of lime, Cointreau, our bestie 1800 Coconut Tequila and their mind-blowing homemade coconut chilli syrup. Truly the perfect amount of spice that is slowly overcome by creamy coco goodness. And the best part? She’s topped off with a TOASTED coconut rim. Not to be dramatic, but we’d die for her x
The only thing better than their margaritas? The fact that you can snag them for $15 during their daily Happy Hour – and in all the best flavours, too. We’re big fans of Happy Hour drinks that don’t feel like Happy Hour drinks, if you know what we mean. At Lucia, the glass is the standard size, the alcohol to mixer ratio is bang on point, and the glass is filled right to the top (and not because it’s been overloaded with ice).
Oh, and if you squint, their terracotta courtyard will have you feeling like you’re sipping a chilli, coconut or classic marg’ on the coast of Mexico.
You can’t always judge a venue by the variety of their margaritas (quantity doesn’t equal quality, you know) but you certainly can at Mexicali. One of the Gold Coast’s most beloved Mexican restaurants, their list of margarita flavours is topped only by the taco menu. There’s passionfruit, watermelon, strawberry… classic, of course! Served over ice or blended into a frozen margarita frappe (of sorts), you’ll keep coming back for more – and trying something different every time you visit.
