Whether you’re a fan of beautiful, handmade ceramics or just the movie ‘Ghost’, you need to try a pottery course. It’s easier than it looks – we promise. And, if you choose one of these pottery classes on the Gold Coast, you’ll be in safe hands.
Stone Studio, Currumbin Waters
If it’s a variety of classes you’re looking for, look no further than Stone Studio. Hand building, wheel throwing, glazing… they’ve got it all, and for ceramicists of all ages, too. They’ve also just moved from Miami to Currumbin Waters (while still keeping their original location in Kingscliff) so they offer a couple of locations to choose from. Stop by for a coffee and scope out the scene if you’re feeling apprehensive – their light-filled Currumbin studio is a particularly nice space to hang out in.
Pot Studios, Tugun
Tucked away on the beach side of the Gold Coast Highway is Pot Studios, a small yet stunning pottery studio that’s perfect for beginners. Their specialty? Guaranteeing you’ll leave with beautiful pieces. Their courses are more focused on what you’ll create than how you’ll create it – whether it’s a ‘dinner set’, ‘salad bowl’, ‘mug’ or ‘pot planter’ workshop you book in for, you know exactly what you’ll leave with. Not sure what you want to make? Book in for ‘Wheel + Wine’.
Clay and Sip, Oxenford
Don’t worry, northern Gold Coasters – we’ve got a great pottery studio for you too. Clay and Sip in Oxenford is the perfect place to do exactly that: clay and sip. Founded on a fun approach to pottery, their workshops cover everything from ‘clay play’ to throwing to hand building to glazing. You can do a one-day workshop or a fully-fledged course, as long as six to eight weeks.
Firebird Studios, Burleigh Heads
Nestled in Burleigh’s industrial estate is Firebird Studios, a community-focused studio specialising in all kinds of pottery. Come for a couple of hours (and leave with a pet bowl or breakfast/dinner set) or enrol in a longer course to master the art of wheel throwing, hand building and more. Book one of their clay and sip sessions and come in and enjoy one of the most loved pottery classes on the Gold Coast.
