Feel-good feed
The North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club’s restaurant has become a popular space for locals and travelers to enjoy a meal and some good company. But did you know, the best part is that all profits go towards saving lives on local beaches?
North Burleigh SLSC spokesperson Carly Way says patrons are drawn to their menu of classic pub meals that have been given a modern Aussie twist.
“Our beachfront restaurant and beer garden serves chicken schnitzel, steaks and fish and chips alongside modern Australian dishes like our macadamia spiced chicken salad, which is flavoured with lemon myrtle and locally roasted macadamia nuts,” Carly says.
The restaurant is open seven days a week and has a menu big enough that there’s definitely something for everyone. The club is located at the esplanade in Miami and overlooks the beach, with diners making the most of the views in the popular beer garden.
“The ground floor alfresco beer garden is a massive point of difference,” says Carly. “It has a great atmosphere for afternoon beers and live music. We’re the only surf club on the coast to still have one!”
Alongside the restaurant, North Burleigh SLSC offers Ocean View, a private event space for birthdays, weddings and corporate functions where you can take advantage of the ocean breeze and beachside views.
Surf’s up
There’s nothing more Gold Coast than surfing. The sport began with the Ancient Polynesians, but in the last century it became embedded in Australia’s culture – especially here on the Goldy.
With locals and tourists coming together to soak up the sun and surf some great waves, surf lifesaving clubs have found a special place in the Gold Coast community. One of the coast’s most iconic clubs is North Burleigh SLSC, which opened in 1949. Now, almost 70 years on, North Burleigh SLSC has almost 1000 volunteer members who help keep the beach safe. In the last year alone there were some 14,000 swimmers on the beach with almost 5000 preventions, 22 rescues and more than 300 first aid treatments – and the 140,347 meals sold by the surf club (468 a day!) directly contributed to training those volunteer lifesavers. It really does take a village.
