Human advancement is a crazy thing. No longer do we need to board a plane to go skydiving, find a cliff to go rock climbing or even leave our city to travel the country. Even crazier? It can all be done on the Gold Coast. Take your next adventure indoors with these indoor adventure activities.
Indoor skydiving
No, it’s not an oxymoron: indoor skydiving is a very real thing, and it’s perfect for adventure-seekers who are also terrified of heights. At iFly Gold Coast – one of five locations around Australia – you can don a flight suit and experience the rush of skydiving in an air tunnel (without experiencing the rush of plummeting towards the earth).
Extreme trampolining
Your childhood trampoline has nothing on Bounce. Best described as an ‘adrenaline playground’, Bounce Gold Coast (located in Burleigh Waters) features a free jump arena, dodgeball court, cliff jump, super tramp and an obstacle park – all enhanced by springy surfaces.
Bouldering and rock climbing
Indoor rock climbing is nothing new, but indoor bouldering – climbing sans ropes and harnesses – is having a major moment. Alpine Indoor Climbing (which has locations in Robina and Currumbin) is the place to go if you’re keen to try your chalked-up hand at bouldering, while On Belay (Burleigh Heads) specialises in rock climbing.
Virtual reality gameplay
Zero Latency is the home of virtual reality (VR) fun on the Gold Coast. Located in Southport, their on-site offering includes VR games that will have you fighting zombies, aliens and robots in a 200sqm area. If that isn’t quite enough, they also have VR escape rooms, axe throwing, murder mystery parties and other simulators.
Flying theatre
Using state-of-the-art technology – including motion-programmed seating and special effects – Dreamworld’s Sky Voyager sees you take off on a flight experience like no other. Soar over 12 regions across Australia, feeling the wind in your hair, light on your face and even scents that transport you to far away places.
Indoor go-karting
Let it rip on the racetrack, whatever the weather, at Game Over. The city’s premier family entertainment centre – located in the heart of Helensvale – has a 200m racetrack designed for electric go-karts. The fun doesn’t stop once you cross the finish line, either; they also have indoor activities like rock climbing, laser tag and mini golf, to name a few.
