Listen up – we’ve studied the calendar to find out how we can get the most out of our public holidays in 2024. And now, we’re sharing our findings with you. Thank us later.
Easter
We’ll already get two days off for Good Friday (March 29) and Easter Monday (April 1), but why not make it a longer holiday? If you’re willing to take four days off either before or after the Easter long weekend, you’ll score an 11-day holiday.
Anzac Day
With Anzac Day falling on a Thursday this year, the obvious choice is to take Friday April 26 off. That way, you’ll get a four-day long weekend from April 25 to 28 – the perfect amount of time for a road trip or camping adventure.
Labour Day
After Anzac Day, you won’t be back at your desk for long before it’s time for another public holiday (and with it, another excuse to use your annual leave). Queensland’s Labour Day public holiday falls on Monday May 6, meaning you can take the rest of the week off (May 7 to May 10) and get nine days off for the price of four. The best part is that it’s not a public holiday in New South Wales – perfect for a quiet getaway over the border. Just don’t forget Mother’s Day on May 12.
Gold Coast Show Day
Gold Coasters, don’t forget we score an extra public holiday for the Gold Coast Show on August 30. That falls on a Friday this year, so if you take off Monday September 2, you’ll get a four-day weekend. Again, don’t forget about Father’s Day on September 1.
King’s Birthday
Much like the Labour Day public holiday, when the Queen’s Birthday public holiday rolls around on Monday October 7, you’ll be able to enjoy a cruisy nine days off without having to sacrifice too much annual leave. Take October 8 to 11 off work to get nine days of holidays, from Saturday October 5 to Sunday October 13.
Christmas
Finally, Christmas – it feels a lifetime away, doesn’t it? But you might want to think ahead, especially if your office isn’t likely to close over the break. If you take two days off (Friday December 27 and Monday December 30), you’ll get 9 days off when you factor in the New Year’s Day public holiday. Take off Monday December 23, too, and you can extend that to a 12-day holiday.
