CURRUMBIN
THINK CURRUMBIN AND YOU INSTANTLY THINK OF CURRUMBIN CREEK. IT’S THE ICONIC WATERWAY LINKING THE BEACH TO THE PRISTINE RAINFOREST MOUNTAINS OF THE REGION WHEN HEADING WEST. CURRUMBIN CREEK AND THE ALLEY, THE ENTRANCE TO THE OCEAN, OFFER A PROTECTED AND PATROLLED HAVEN FOR ALL KINDS OF ACTIVE WATER SPORTS, PARTICULARLY STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDING AND KAYAKING.
SIGHTS
It’s one of the last stops on the Gold Coast, but a trip to Currumbin is definitely worth the drive – and topping the list of ‘must see’s has to be the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. A bit of a Gold Coast institution, the sanctuary is home to some of Queensland’s cutest citizens – and some pretty scary ones too. Whether you spend a day in the sanctuary itself or half-an- hour feeding the rainbow lorikeets, it’s certainly a day to remember.
THREE THINGS TO DO
- Superbee Honeyworld – get a taste of the sweet life and experience the wonderful
world of bees at Honeyworld, located just opposite Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. - Surf Museum – live and breathe surfing? This collection of memorabilia, photographs
and surfboards has to be seen to be believed. - Swell Festival – for fifteen years this home-grown art and cultural festival has
transformed Currumbin, and this September will be no different.
BITES
Currumbin’s beachfront restaurant strip may be small, but boy, do they pack a lot in. From the bright pink acai bowls from the Salt Mill to the stunning panoramic views of the Elephant Rock Cafe, Currumbin’s food scene is nothing if not versatile. Head up the road to Currumbin Waters for a caffeine hit at Neighbourhood Espresso, or the best cheap Asian feast around at Zipang.
SHOP
When it comes to shopping ‘small’, Currumbin is your go-to – from awesome farmers’
markets like the Currumbin Community Markets and the Sanctuary markets to great local boutiques. Some of our favourites are So Jaded, the Young Ones and Lush, which can all be found right next to each other on Pacific Parade. So handy!
